Technologies to Support Building Safety and Reliability

Seismic isolation technology of Toda Corporation

Overview

The seismic isolation structure is a structure in which a soft support is placed between the building and the ground. Softening the anchorage to the ground makes the natural shaking period of the building longer and reduces the seismic force input to the building.

Features

By sandwiching a soft seismic isolator between the building and the foundation, the isolator absorbs the seismic vibration and deforms the seismic vibration during an earthquake, making it difficult for it to be transmitted to the building.
Seismic isolation devices absorb the ground motions and are greatly deformed, but they are structured so that they can support the weight of the building even if deformed.

For the layer between the building and the foundation where isolator is mounted, we use special kind of equipment piping, etc., designed with a margin so that it can withstand deformation.

TO-HIS method/Toda-type seismic isolation method

A seismic isolation system combined with elastic sliding support is used to achieve long building cycles. It is possible to make the shaking period of high-rise buildings with long natural shaking period further longer.
