Technologies to Support Building Safety and Reliability

Toda type buckling restrained brace "TO-BRB"
(seismic-resistant and vibration-damping)

Overview

Toda type buckling restrained brace "TO-BRB" (seismic-resistant and vibration-damping) Overview Realizes high earthquake resistance and high quality buildings using split-type restraint materials The slender brace is generally characterized by high tensile strength and low compression. In contrast, the buckling restrained brace is reinforced with a constraining material around the brace to prevent the core material from buckling due to compressive force and absorbs more seismic energy than the conventional brace. Manufacturing is carried out under the control of our own plant (Narita PC Plant), and it has become possible to control the smoothness of fillers and clearance with core material, which have a great impact on the performance of the buckling restrained brace, with high precision.

Advantages

  • It can absorb more seismic energy compared to normal braces because it can perform similarly both in tension and in compression.
  • Compared with ordinary braces, the number of installation points can be reduced, and the cross-section of the frame can also be reduced, which leads to a reduction in the total cost of the building.
  • By dividing the restraining material into separate parts, the filling condition of the filling material, smooth accuracy, clearance between the core material and the constraining material, etc., can be managed visually and reliably.
  • Manufacturing is carried out at our own plant (Narita PC Plant), where smoothness of filling materials and clearance with core materials are controlled with high accuracy (construction accuracy of restrained concrete smoothness ±1mm).
